Quilt Calendar on Design Sponge
I've been a Design*Sponge reader since its early days & have been a faithful reader since. Grace has built an amazing team & I am always inspired by the artists and work she features, so I was super excited to have our Quilt Calendar featured on Friday. This calendar had been in my head for almost a year, and then it took many many months to bring it to life. And even when it was done & I loved it, I still wasn't sure that others would love it or get it. So it really made my day to have the support from someone like Grace who sees beautiful work every second of every day. It's an honor for sure.
Read the feature here.
And of course, big big thanks to Grace at D*S.

Interview at Dry as Toast
Dorkys Ramos from Dry as Toast recently interviewed me re the biz & life. It was sort of fun answering her questions & discovering a few things about my new Mommy role in the process - like how I felt inspired by a rubber ducky. Read the full interview here.
Thanks, Dorkys!

Thanks, iVillage!
Thanks so much, iVillage for posting our Summer Notepads in their round up Fourth of July Frugal Finds: Red, White & Blue under $50.
They included some great stuff. I especially like this Anchor Doormat. It's not very Brooklyn but I'm tempted:)

design*sponge NSS Coverage
Going into the National Stationery Show with your biggest wall featuring a product in a completely new medium (digitally printed watercolor) was a little scary. Are people going to like this as much as I do? Will they like/understand the big size? Is the focus on lettering & color variations too simple?
I felt better after Day One when the response was good, but seeing Grace's post on it this morning was the best gold star I could get. See her full post here, including her shout out to my business cards for best at the show. In a sea full of paper, to me, that's the best compliment you can get.
Thanks so much to Grace & Amy for coming by!

L&H for Sunday Suppers in Martha Stewart Living

Have you seen the gorg Sunday Suppers photo shoot in this month's Martha Stewart Living? Karen Mordechai, the photographer/creator behind Sunday Suppers, put together a beautiful "rustic Italian" spread for the mag and asked me to contribute the paper elements. (John & I were supposed to attend, but I couldn't make the snow date! So bummed. When will that ever happen again??) I used kraft paper for the larger recipe booklets and tea stained and hand stamped the beverage tags. Check out more images on the Sunday Suppers blog here. They are stunning.

L&H on the Bride's Guide

Yesterday, the Bride's Guide (the blog on Martha Stewart Weddings) featured our Zig Zag invitation on its seeing red round up. I love the idea of using red in a wedding, too. To soften this strong color, I'd mix it with a pale green or sorbet tones. Or mix country red plaid with vintage brass or aluminum pieces and then add in something more tailored glass or china.
Thanks, Carolyn Veith Kreinke & MSW!

L&H on New York Magazine's Shop-O-Matic

Our Thank You Swirls Note Cards and our Purple Mermaid Note Cards (thanks Lizzy for pointing those out!) were chosen as part of Oh Joy!'s picks on nymag.com's Shop-O-Matic! Do you know this column? It's great for window or real shopping. As if you needed an easier way or more motivation to do that. But it is very well-curated. And I love that they have gotten some guest editors like Joy in there now, too! Great idea, nymag! And thanks to Oh Joy! for including us in your round up!

Sundance

Two years ago, we were asked to do the invitations for a Style Lounge (fancy name for gifting suite) for the Emmys. In exchange, we got a spot at the event where we gifted celebs with L&H goodies. It was such a departure from what we do day to day, to say the least, but it was so much fun to experience LA a bit, get some new business, meet a now L&H team member, and of course the thrill of meeting people who exist on a rectangle in your living room or local theatre - or in 140 character spurts.
So, we were so excited to get the opportunity to do another one for the Sundance Film Festival in Salt Lake City at the end of this month. I've been working closely with the pr firm presenting the lounge for months now and have been labeling the envelopes this week with some big name peeps, so let's hope they come! Here's a sneak peek at the final invitation. We're doing some exclusive products for the event that I'll preview in the next couple weeks. Hard to believe we leave two weeks from today. We can't wait!

With Thanks: Dwell online

I love when our products are written up in a strong & genuine voice - which was the case this week on Dwell.com. It certainly makes me feel good about what we do - but as a reader, it's nice to really feel that thoughtful connection between the editor & the product.
Thanks, Dwell!

In the News: Thank You Notes

I read a couple articles on stationery yesterday, so I thought I'd share the links here. Dwell's blog mentioned our thank you cards yesterday as a "handsome, just-this-side-of-fey" alternative to many of the too-cutesy thank you notes out there. Thank you, Dwell. I definitely agree:) And then also out yesterday in the New York Times was an article called Custom Stationery in an Email Age. My favorite takeaway line came from Anna Post, Emily Post’s great-great-granddaughter and the spokeswoman for the Emily Post Institute, who said they don't use the word "rule" anymore when it comes to thank you note etiquette, but rather the simple sentiment, “If you think you should be sending a thank you note instead of an e-mail, then you should.” Again, I agree. I tend to think there's less of a social obligation to write thank you notes - mostly because our means of communication has fundamentally changed. We express ourselves & our feelings in emails & texts & tweets all day long. But I think it's because of this that sending a handwritten note is more genuine - not just an act of duty. We're not robots. As a designer from Dempsey & Carroll put it, sending a note says, "You stopped me in my tracks and this comes from my heart."

With Thanks: Martha Stewart Weddings

We have been waiting for the Martha Stewart Weddings summer issue to come out and I was finally able to pick up a copy this week - in the rain, of course. Soggy pages or not, this issue is full of color. Our Crescendo invitation made the spread on page 30 where they set the stage for the rest of the issue. I love the pink & red color combo - so very sweet, so very summer. It got a little washed out in the mag, so I thought I'd share a more true-to-color version here:

Thank you to Martha Stewart Weddings for asking us to be a part of such a vibrant issue!

With Thanks: Cottage Life

Thanks to Cottage Life for putting our Moose note cards in this cute spread, Moose on the Loose. The layout & shots are great. The spread reminds me of the layouts I loved in Blueprint. I don't know what it is - but I have such a soft spot for this big goofy-looking animal.
