Beignets - not your average fried dough
Our first breakfast in New Orleans was at Cafe Du Monde - a place where you wait in line for a half hour to get some fried dough (beignets) and powdered sugar. But man oh man was this more than just some waffle cake at the state fair. These things were amazing - fried, of course - and covered in mounds of powdered sugar. They are served in threes and come in a paper bag with at least 5 cups of powdered sugar. The bag without the beignets weighs more than the actual beignets. A must stop, wait, and taste if you're in the French Quarter. A great post on this over at Passionate Eater too.

That looks amazing. Would be worth the trip just for that alone.
