Outstanding in the Field
Last night, John and I went allllll the way out to Queens Farm (yes, a farm - a 47 acre one - in Queens) for an Outstanding in the Field dinner. I had never heard of such a thing until it was given to us as a present this summer. It's a "culinary adventure" that brings together local farmers, chefs, and diners - "a restaurant without walls". There were about 150 of us - all at one very long table, sharing delicious & fresh food - literally in a field. It was pretty magical to say the least - and crazy yummy. To see & read a bit more about it, go here. And not to be missed is the amazing & enormous artwork by chef & founder Jim Denevan here.

I just learned about this amazing "restaurant" and I want to do it! How wonderful that you had a chance to enjoy such an incredible meal.
If you want an extra special dining experience, I don't think anything can compare. It was amazing.
I am so jealous. The Chicago dinner sells out so quickly (and I must admit my procrastinating tendencies do not help). Sounds wonderful, and what a fabulous, original present!
Wow - that looks amazing - the food & the farm! Thanks for sharing!
Love it! I have gone out to their website and signed up for the e-mail updates as I think this would make an amazing gift for the hard to buy for in-laws, sister, etc. Thanks.
How far ahead of time do they release there summer schedule? I would love to do this next year. I am sure it sells out quick!

Jenny - I heard that they sell out like concert tickets - like 1 minute or something crazy like that. I think they release them on the first day of spring. I'd love to check out the NYC one next year. It would be great to make a trip out of it too - I hear the ones in CA are beautiful.
I am SO jealous...the ones in CO sold out before I had a chance to blink! Fortunately some Boulder foodies are organizing similar dinners locally so hopefully I'll have a chance to get in on one of them... Lucky you!
how fun! would be awesome for an engagement party, too. marie-isabelle
