Swim Bike Run

So, I've been keeping something from you, my dear readers. And just 10 minutes ago, I made it officially official by booking our plane tickets, so it's time to just come out with it already. I'm doing an Ironman. John too. For the past 8 weeks, we've been getting up at the crack of dawn to fit in our morning workout and a few days a week, when the sun goes down and Thomas has picked up our last package, we're out the door for our evening workout. Our weekends are less lazy and more rewarding - and I couldn't be more excited about it. I also couldn't be hungrier. I've been eying the great food blogs lately and dreaming up some pretty nice meals. Now only if I could actually cook those meals. Ah well. It's all about taking one step at a time these days.

i've had you in the back of my mind the last few weeks since i've read this post. i was scheduled to do the danskin triathlon {sprint} today. i did it last year for the first time and loved it. well, as much as you can love beating yourself up! but it was one of the most rewarding things i've done.

this year i started training in january and was going strong. and when i say strong, i mean strong {for me anyway}. needless to say, by april, and with all the changes/turnover at the store, i was completely burnt-out. and when i say completely, i mean completely!

i figured i'd get back onto the training wagon ... i had to! i have a extremely good friend just diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer ... so i had a reason to do it this year! but for the life of me, i couldn't start training. a couple runs here, and a couple bikes there ... that. was. it. :(

with our travels the last couple of weeks, i just didn't get to train. i even brought my goggles, swim cap, running shoes. i made the very hard decision to bag the tri. so sad ...

then a friend suggested we do it as a relay. yeah, that seems doable to me. so this morning at the crack of dawn, we headed to the event. i did the run, while two others did the swim and bike. we had our 'tri-ing for marta' tshirts and wrote her name of the back of our legs.

it was amazing. i am so glad i did it. i feel defeated in a way that i didn't do the whole thing, but feel empowered to make sure i continue {or start} to train and stay with it all year, so by next year, i'm ready to go.

so back to my point ... i'd been thinking about this post and the fact that you're doing an ironman and i am so completely in awe of you! i know {actually, i probably don't to the fullest extent} what dedication and commitment and endurance that it takes and want to say that i'm proud of you! congrats and i can't wait to hear how it goes!!
