Neon
I'm in the thick of NSS prep these days - designing, tweaking, even selling already if you can believe it. Bright & neon colors continue to pepper my work this year - and possibly even more so. I'm so excited to show & share in the next few weeks. Speaking of neon, how pretty are these tea towels that Scholten & Baijings did for Hay Denmark? See more of their work at A + R.

The Perfect Pen
I'm on a quest for the perfect pen. Perfectly looking pen, really. I have the perfect pen (in my opinion) in the Uniball Vision, but it's not the prettiest. And this one needs to look a certain way because it's going to debut with something special at this year's stationery show. Very exciting. I have done some research online, ordered a whole bunch from Jet Pens, and consulted Brad at The Pen Addict. While I'd love to use something fancy, it's just not in the budget for the project. I'm getting closer, but not quite there yet. Do you have the perfect pen? Or the perfectly looking pen?

Tomboy Style
How did I not know about Tomboy Style?! Such a great blog. A friend sent me the above trailer for the upcoming book, which I can't wait to get. All my favorite girls in the world fit one or more of her tomboy archetypes. I love this.
Thanks for the tip, T!

Loeffler Randall: Lotte Knot Clog
I love clogs. I know they're not exactly fashion forward, but I really don't think they're completely unfortunate, either. And man are they comfy. These beauties by Loeffler Randall might just have to come home with me to spruce up my Danskos. Sorry, old buddies, but you're too hot for summer anyway. Now, which color... hmm.

Craig Cutler
A year ago, commercial photographer Craig Cutler created CC52 - a personal project and promise to create personal work, every week for a year. These beautiful photos above use letterpress type with the goal "to compose and create photographs using various letterpress type; to look at the individual type, and sometimes their environments, as abstract forms rather than objects of function."
You should check out the rest of his CC52 work here. I could easily post them every day. They're stunning. And I love his pledge to produce more personal work on a regular basis. I'd be interested to hear how this project has impacted his commercial work.
Well done.

Orly Genger / Rope
How beautiful is this Orly Genger rope necklace? With the temps getting into the eighties!! by next week, my mind is set on summer and not looking back. I know, we're not even into spring. But we didn't have a winter, so that's where my mind is heading. And this rope necklace would be a perfect statement piece to the simplest of outfits.

White on My Mind
I love adding color to walls, and in most cases, it has the biggest bang for your buck. But after living with pretty blue-green walls for several years now, I think I'm ready for a change. I'm finding myself drawn more & more to clean white spaces like these Scandinavian interiors. While my furry friend will prevent me from ever owning white floors, I think other white surfaces could be a nice breath of fresh air.
ps, I love bunk beds.

Wood Paneling
I can't stop looking at the wood siding of this crazy house. It's beautiful. And very repetition-plus-variation, like I posted yesterday:)

Repetition
I have been looking at a lot of quilts & quilting patterns lately, in preparation for a new project I'm launching at this year's Stationery Show. (Stay tuned for more on that!) I've always loved the way the quilt pattern repeats itself with those subtle variations that result only in something handmade.
I recently hand-lettered a friend's birthday menu. To find out what style of lettering she wanted, I wrote out the same cheese name & description in different styles and found the result to be that same lovely repetition-plus-variation I'm drawn to in quilts.
Cheese and quilts - who knew?

About Town: CMA, again
We went back to the Children's Museum of the Arts this weekend. It's much busier on the weekends, but it didn't seem to get in the way of Griffin thoroughly enjoying his dot pens.
ps, those things are awesome! and washable:)

Dear Beach, I miss you.
A few weeks ago, we took our first kid-free vacation to St. Lucia. Now that life is back to its hectic usual self, I thought I'd post some pics to remind myself that sitting on the beach all day actually did happen. My favorite time of day was just after sunset, when the sky & sea turn to shades of blue & gray and the light danced on the water. Ending the day with a beer on the beach was cool too :)
