Checking In at 9 Weeks

Wheeeeew.

Louise was 9 weeks old yesterday, and I can finally say that we are slooooowly coming back to life. (I want to add like a hundred more o's in that "slowly", but you probably wouldn't be able to read it as a word. Just so you know.)

Griffin gave his little sister the gift of germs at five weeks old. Which was really fun for Mom & Dad. She visited the ER twice, had her first x-ray and was put on antibiotics to prevent the fluid in her lungs from harboring any bacteria. It was a pretty trying & scary time - sucking mucus from her nostrils, keeping her upright, visiting the doctor. But we got through it, sleep-deprived and over-caffinated.

And now I'm thrilled to say we're out of those deep dark woods. Our healthy little chunkster is the happy little girl we started seeing glimmers of at four weeks - smiling, eating, sleeping, pooping, burping. All those things babies do best. Makes me so happy to see her thriving after being so fragile there for a while.

So that's the update from here. More (happy & healthy ones) to come. A photo above from the weekend, where Louise fell asleep in my arms waiting for her bath. Pretty good little life, Miss Louise. Your Mommy loves you, even though you scared the bejesus out of her.

Eating Oysters

I wouldn't touch an oyster. Okay, I'd touch it. With my fingertip. But I will not eat it. No interest. Not even dressed up in hot sauce or baked with breadcrumbs. My dad used to say that you could dunk a dirty sock in cocktail sauce & it would taste great. I'm not buying it. But Griffin loves oysters. Here, he & Daddy sprinkle on the breadcrumbs before baking them. At almost two & a half, he's a more mature eater than his wuss mommy :)

Happy Birthday, Kingsley!

Our furry best friend turns 7 today!

Thanks, Girl,

for being the cutest lil pup in the world,

for always wanting to be close,

for keeping me company at my desk,

for babysitting Griffin,

for (mostly) not eating Griffin's food right under your nose,

and for letting Griffin throw your food into a tunnel.

You're the best big sister & forever our first baby.

Jerry

For Christmas, we gave my sister & her husband tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld this spring at MSG (we're tagging along too! one for me, one for you!). Because the tickets exist in internet ticket land, I made them a little sign with this pic of Jerry from Seinfeld. I have kept it on the corner of my desktop so I can see it every time I'm on my computer & it cracks me up every. single. time.

That's all.

Summery Images: Crabs

I wouldn't touch what's in these tubes with a ten foot pole (crabs in tubes? barf! sorry, Swedes), but man I do love these little crabbies.

Summer on My Mind

I'm technically taking a few months "off" for maternity leave, but now that Louise is five weeks old, and I'm sloooooowly coming out of the newborn daze (I said slowly! with lots of o's!), I can't help think about what's next for L&H. It looks like our first installment for 2013 will come this spring with summery offerings - which are always my favorite. Any animal or item from the beach or sea will always hold a special place in my heart, so I'm excited to make summer a big focus & already have lots of ideas. And speaking of summery things, a friend recently told me about this beautiful ceramic Buoy Bowl by Shoham Arad. I love and am inspired by the simplicity & the lightheartedness of it. It's happy and just perfect.
