Hatch Show Print

I'm really feeling large scale letterpress work these days, and there is no one better known for it than Hatch Show Print located in Nashville, TN. They have been around since the turn of the century and in addition to letterpress printing signs for grocery stores, laundries and movie theatres, they have produced posters for some of the most well-known country singers. From the 1920s to the 1950s, Hatch created posters for events that "created the excitement that sold the show, covering the sides of buildings and barns in cities and towns throughout the country. Whether circus, minstrel show, vaudeville act or carnival, if you wanted to fill seats, Hatch got the job done." Read more of the fascinating letterpress shop's history here.

They did a piece on Hatch during an NFL game a couple of weeks ago and it was awesome...they have some press that is automated that shoots the poster up and out! It's very cool looking. No clue what it was though.

Liz, I was just at the Ryman Sunday night for a Ray LaMontagne concert (sooo good), and I noticed some prints on the walls of the lobby that have to be Hatch. Thanks for calling this to my attention! They do EXCELLENT work--just like someone else I know.

P.S. I am still getting compliments on your '08 calendar from my friend. Thanks again!!

Oh my gosh. It was AMAZING. He did several songs from his new album, "Gossip In the Grain," which were somewhat of a departure from older songs but still so good. Then he did several of my favorites--as well as TWO encores. His opening act, Leona Naess, was also quite nice. You should definitely come down to Nashville some time. There's a great stationery store on 21st called Social Graces and tons of other stuff to see, do, taste, and hear.
