Sweet Assignment

Part of my day yesterday was spent "researching" gingerbread houses. I'm doing an invitation for a gingerbread house making party. How fun is that?! I've only made one gingerbread house all by myself. And I completely cheated. I didn't buy the set, although if you've done that, I'd consider you a cheater too - but props for trying at all. I made my house out of graham crackers! So I suppose - no, I'm actually quite certain - that that doesn't constitute a gingerbread house at all!

You can see I had my work cut out for me. I found these images while I was poking around the internet trying to find out what shapes of candy and swirls of icing might work. I love the cutout shapes on the first one, the tall shape and shingles of the second and the seemingly professional look of the third. Notice the chocolate graham cracker door - genius.

I love making gingerbread houses! You should definitely try and make one from scratch sometime...given all of the little people in your life you'd have plenty of helpers! I made some pretty cool ones last year for a catering company I worked for - I'll try & find the pics. They were pretty good I must admit! And, if you don't want to eat the finished product you can hot glue the parts together - much less frustrating!

and love the idea of using glue, alicia! great cheat tip:) I'm all about enjoying the candy during the decorating anyway. In my one house experience, that is.

Yeah! That's such a fun activity. Once my sisters and I made a really cool one with our babysitter. We had little elf chocolates and everything. We used fluff to hold it together.
